Vin Diesel Is Finally Getting That Fourth ‘Riddick’ Film Off The Ground

Vin Diesel isn’t just the face and driving force behind the Fast & Furious franchise. He’s also got the Chronicles of Riddick sci-fi franchise to his credit. Forgot about this one? It’s okay. There hasn’t been a new one since 2013’s Riddick, while Diesel and co-creator David Twohy have been trying to put together the resources to do another. Well, that time has finally come.

Diesel is set to produce and star in Riddick: Furya, a continuation of the sci-fi series of films that began with 2000’s Pitch Black, and continued with 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick and 2013’s Riddick. Twohy will direct based on his own screenplay, one that Diesel has been hyping for years.

The story will find Riddick, the deadly Furyan space criminal who is tough as nails and can see in the dark, as he “finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins by the Necromongers. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new enemy. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.”

The Riddick films have never been huge money makers, but more of a personal pet project for Diesel. They’ve combined to earn $267M worldwide, however, the budgets have been pretty modest.

Diesel has gathered some cool actors to be a part of this in the past, including Dave Bautista, Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff, Thandiwe Newton, and Judi Dench. Could we see some of them return?

Twohy said: “Our legion fans have demanded it for years, and now we’re finally ready to honor their call-to-action with Riddick: Furya. My collaboration with Vin and One Race has spanned 20 fruitful years, as together we’ve created three movies, two video games, an anime production, and motion comics for the internet. This new big-screen event will see a return to Riddick’s homeworld, where we finally get to explore Riddick’s genesis.”
