Was the casting of Harry Styles as Starfox in Eternals just “stunt casting”? That has been speculation from some, and I feel like that wouldn’t be the case if there were more concrete news about an Eternals sequel. But for now, there’s nothing, so we have to rely on the word of others. Fortunately, the film’s producer, Nate Moore, confirms there’s more to come from Styles as Thanos’ philandering brother.
“We didn’t cast Harry for a tag, There’s more stories to be told with [Eros],” Moore told Deadline. “He’s a complicated character, but a really fun character. And I think, having met Harry Styles, he is as charming as you want him to be. And I think there’s no limit to how good that character’s going to be once we get to bring him back.”
Marvel isn’t generally in the one-and-done business. And Styles has proven himself a capable actor in films such as Dunkirk and My Policeman. He won’t be a drag on the cinematic universe, and could bring in even more fans given his incredible popularity.
But Starfox is a character with a ton of baggage, and some of it is pretty ugly. I was surprised they introduced him into the MCU at all, but it could make for some interesting stories for when/if Thanos ever returns.
