Po is back! Dreamworks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda franchise has quietly banked the studio nearly $2B since the first movie in 2008. Two sequels, a holiday special, four short films, five video games, and two TV series spinoffs later, it’s safe to say the animated kung fu fighting will go on forever. And now we have the first teaser for a new Netflix series, Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, with Jack Black returning as the voice of Po.
The inclusion of Black to the role puts this series on equal footing to the movies because he has not voiced Po in the previous series spinoffs. So what kind of misadventure has Po gotten himself into this time? He must go on a dangerous globe-trotting quest of redemption to locate four powerful weapons and save the world. To do it, he’ll need to team up with a no-nonsense English knight named Wandering Blade, voiced by Rita Ora!
Also in the cast are James Hong as Mr. Ping, Chris Geere as Klaus Dumont, Della Saba as Veruca Dumont, Rahnuma Panthaky as Rukhmini, Ed Weeks as Colin, and Amy Hill as Pei Pei.
So prepare for more “don’t judge a book by its cover” lessons in-between powerful Po jumpkicks and occasional shouts of “SKADOOSH!!”
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight hits Netflix on July 14th.
