The conclusion of last year’s Mortal Kombat film teased the arrival of Johnny Cage, the arrogant Hollywood action star who is also one of the top fighters in the world. Ever since, WWE superstar and reality TV star Mike “The Miz” Mizanin has been lobbying hard for the role. And I have to admit, the first thing I said coming out of the movie is that he’d be perfect for it. Well, Miz isn’t letting up.
Speaking with Comicbook.com, The Miz continued to press for the role, get ready for it, and thanked the fans for getting him motivated.
“I have been working on my splits. I’ve been working on my kicks. As soon as I saw that Mortal Kombat was out and there was no Johnny Cage yet and my name was literally trending worldwide No.1, ‘We want Miz as Johnny Cage’, I was like, ‘if they want that to happen, I need to basically make sure that I am prepared and ready if that opportunity presents itself, then I will be ready and focused.”
If you’ve seen The Miz since his days on MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge, or through his Hall of Fame career as a heel in the WWE, or on his reality show Miz & Mrs., his look and personality fits Johnny Cage to a tee. Miz has never been able to break out as a big Hollywood action star the way other WWE stars have, like the Rock, Dave Bautista, and John Cena, but he’s been acting as long if not longer than they have. Playing Johnny Cage could be what finally does it for him.
The Miz added, “I will do everything in my power to hopefully get that part if the opportunity presents itself. I have an immense work ethic, and whatever it takes, I will be there to try and do it. And if I don’t get it, that’s okay too. But I hope the person that does get it will put in the same amount of work and dedication and give the fans exactly what they want because I know what I want out of Johnny Cage. I really do.”
