With A Minecraft Movie still in theaters racking up the year’s biggest box office, Jason Momoa has been busy adding more projects to his slate. But this latest one is unexpected. Deadline reports Momoa will team up with Andy Samberg on a two-hander action-comedy that has just landed at Netflix following an intense bidding war.
Studios and streamers went after the untitled action-comedy, reportedly set in Momoa’s native Hawaii. Other plot details remain unknown. While there’s no director yet, the screenplay is by a pair of renowned SNL veterans, Emmy nominees Rob Klein and John Solomon. Samberg and Momoa will also be producers through their respective labels.
Coming up for Momoa is another action-comedy, The Wrecking Crew, alongside Dave Bautista. He also has his role as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with more DCU stuff in the pipeline. Also there’s the Apple miniseries Chief of War debuting in August, and Momoa is in talks to star in the upcoming Street Fighter movie.
Next up for Samberg is this August’s The Roses alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman. He was last seen in Good Burger 2 and in Lee opposite Kate Winslet. He’s expected to return as the voice of Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
