What does Leatherface do for fifty years if he isn’t out there killing? I don’t know the answer, but we know what he’s going to do when he comes out of hiding. The classic horror franchise is headed to Netflix with Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and it’s one of those legacy requels they were talking about in Scream. Basically, the film is pulling off a Halloween, ignoring the many sequels that piled up over the years that nobody liked, in favor of a new sequel that is a true followup to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 film.
Set fifty years after the original classic, Leatherface returns to stalk a bunch of idealistic youngsters who disrupt his seclusion in a Texas town. The film boasts a story by Evil Dead‘s Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues, with Alvarez disciple David Blue Garcia directing. Kim Henkel, who co-wrote Hooper’s film, is aboard as well.
The cast is led by Eighth Grade breakout Elsie Fisher, plus Sarah Yarkin, Mark Burnham, Moe Dunford, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Olwen Fouéré, Jacob Latimore, and Alice Krige.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre hits Netflix on February 18th.
Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teenage sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson), head to the remote town of Harlow, Texas to start an idealistic new business venture. But their dream soon turns into a waking nightmare when they accidentally disrupt the home of Leatherface, the deranged serial killer whose blood-soaked legacy continues to haunt the area’s residents — including Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré), the sole survivor of his infamous 1973 massacre who’s hell-bent on seeking revenge.
