‘Hawkeye’ Spinoff Series ‘Echo’ Already In The Works For Disney+

Just how expansive are Marvel Studios’ plans for their Disney+ shows? Hawkeye isn’t even finished yet and already a spinoff is in the works. This one would center on Echo, the deaf Native American hero who will be debuting in the first season of the archer’s solo series.

The role of Echo has already been cast, with Alaqua Cox set to play her when the character appears in Hawkeye. Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder, Get Hard) and Emily Cohen have been hired to write the Echo series, with a writers room being formed to carry it forward.

Echo aka Maya Lopez is a fairly recent creation, having first been published in 1999. Her powers are similar to the Black Widow villain Taskmaster, in that she has “photographic reflexes” and can mimick the fighting style of her opponents. She is also the first person to take the mantle of Ronin, passing it on to Clint Barton/Hawkeye. We saw him in that role in Avengers: Endgame, using it to exact murderous vengeance afte his family disappeared in the “blip.”

An Echo series has a ton of potential, because you know Marvel is going to do something really creative in depicting her hearing loss. The character was also raised by Wilson Fisk aka the Kingpin, a mob boss villain most recently seen played by Vincent D’Onofrio in the Daredevil Netflix series. Could be a way to bring that character into the MCU proper.
