Warner Bros. Officially Rules Out More Snyderverse, Kills Hopes Of ‘Suicide Squad’ Ayer Cut

Warner Bros. potentially opened up a can of worms when they greenlit the Snyder Cut, or Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Fans of Snyder had been calling for it to happen, and waged quite a social media offensive over the years. Now that the film is out, to really good reviews (including my own), Snyder’s fans want more. The hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderverse has been trending for weeks, in hopes that Snyder’s vision for the DCEU continues. Well…don’t hold your breath.

WarnerMedia CEO Ann Sarnoff spoke with Variety and shot down any hopes of Snyder doing more stuff for DC Films. Instead, Warner Bros. is eager to move forward with the new base of creators they have now, and others they are bringing in…

“We wanted to give Zack the opportunity to complete his vision in a four-hour movie, which is impossible to do in theaters. We’re happy that we have HBO Max to let the rope out as it were and allow the fans to see all four-hours of Zack’s vision.”

“We’ve got an incredible group of creators — television series creators, Max series creators, feature film creators — who are basically broadening the base of the talent that we work with on DC because we’re so excited about the potential to build out the DC multiverse.”

So what about restoring the Snyderverse? Any chance of that? Nah.

“I appreciate that they love Zack’s work and we are very thankful for his many contributions to DC…With that comes the completion of his trilogy. We’re very happy we’ve done this, but we’re very excited about the plans we have for all the multi-dimensional DC characters that are being developed right now.”

Snyder himself has been telling us this for a while now, and maybe this will put an end to it.

The problem WB has made for itself is that now fans will always clamor for what they don’t have. Such is the case for Suicide Squad, which may have done well at the box office but was not well-received critically. Fans have been asking to see David Ayer’s cut, or the #AyerCut of that film, too. Any chance of that happening?

Sarnoff didn’t mince words:“We won’t be developing David Ayer’s cut.”

That one was always wishful thinking, but I do believe both Ayer and Snyder have a future in the DCEU. By all accounts they’re still on good terms with the studio, but it may be a good idea to let them both get some distance.
