From hero to villain, from DC to Marvel, Christian Bale, who never seemed like an actor who would want to do comic book movies, is about to embark on his fourth. He’s been attached to Thor: Love & Thunder for a while now, but his role has always been kept secret. Well, the secret is out, and he’s playing one of the deadliest Marvel villains around, Gorr the God Butcher.
It was announced at Disney’s all-important investor conference that Bale will play Gorr the God Butcher in the upcoming fourth Thor movie, directed by Taika Waititi. Gorr is a relatively new character, having debuted in 2013, and also one of the most powerful foes Thor has faced. The character has set out to kill every living god after coming to the realization that they exist but refuse to help those in need. This came after Gorr’s family was killed, and he was banished from his tribe. He carries the All-Black necrosword, a weapon created by the lord of the symbiotes out of the head of a dead Celestial. This thing is powerful, and more than enough to kill an Asgardian.
So add Gorr to a story that will also see Natalie Portman become The Mighty Thor. Chris Hemsworth will obviously be back, as well, along with Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, who has become the new “king” of Asgard.
Thor: Love & Thunder opens May 6th 2022.
