‘Renfield’: Awkwafina Joins Dracula Comedy With Nicholas Hoult And Nicolas Cage

It didn’t take long, but when Awkwafina is added to a project it gives a certain star quality. Ever since her starring role in The Farewell, which should have earned her an Oscar nomination if you ask me, she’s been key to a pair of blockbusters in Jumanji: The Next Level and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. And now Universal is hoping she can do the same for their Dracula film, Renfield.

THR confirms that Awkwafina has joined Nicholas Hoult and the recently-cast Nicolas Cage in Renfield, which centers on Dracula’s infamously loyal henchman. A comedic take on the toxic relationship between Renfield and ol’ Drac, the film also adds a bit of adventure and a tone similar to Taika Waititi’s What We Do in the Shadows.

Awkwafina will play a woman who teams up with Hoult’s Renfield to take on Dracula, in a role that Cage is sure to ham up. The film will be directed by The Tomorrow War and The Lego Batman Movie‘s Chris McKay, from a story by The Walking Dead‘s Robert Kirkman.
