It’s been six years since David Fincher’s last feature, the hit thriller Gone Girl, but the wait for his next film is just about over. Collider reports that Netflix plans to release Mank, Fincher’s biopic about famed Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, on December 4th.
Mank was written by Fincher’s late father, Jack Fincher, and follows Mankiewicz’s battles with Orson Welles over the production and writing of Citizen Kane, considered one of the greatest movies of all-time. The film stars Gary Oldman in the title role, The Souvenir‘s Tom Burke as Welles, Amanda Seyfried as Marion Davies, Charles Dance as William Randolph Hearst, plus Lily Collins, Arliss Howard, and Tom Pelphrey.
This goes to show Netflix’s confidence in Fincher to deliver during the awards season. Their association runs pretty deep, with Fincher being directly involved in the creation of two of Netflix’s biggest shows, House of Cards and Mindhunter.
