If things had gone as expected, director Bassam Tariq and Mahershala Ali would’ve already worked together, on the infamously delayed Blade movie. Obviously, that never happened, but the two did finally get to collaborate with Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a hitman movie set up at Amazon MGM and Orion Pictures.
The first trailer for Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother has arrived, and it shows the Oscar-winning Ali as Latif, a grieving hitman struggling to reconcile his violent work with his deeply religious beliefs, while on a journey to protect his children.
The film was written and directed by Ali, best known for the Riz Ahmed drama Mogul Mowgli and the Netflix documentary short, Ghosts of Sugar Land.
The supporting cast is terrific, too, with John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, Giancarlo Esposito, and Adia.
When this film was first announced, I was convinced they would have to change that title, which just doesn’t seem very marketable. Apparently, Amazon thought differently. We’ll see how it works out. I’m always rooting for Ali, a two-time Oscar winner who always delivers soulful performances no matter the role.
Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother hits NY/LA on September 25th, expanding October 2nd, then going nationwide October 9th.
