‘The Get Out’ Trailer: Russell Crowe Stars In Gritty Crime Thriller With Aaron Paul, Nina Dobrev, And Luke Evans

Russell Crowe is doing what a lot of top-tier actors do once they hit a certain stage of their careers. Similar to Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson, and Nicolas Cage, Crowe has one foot in the world of studio blockbusters, and the other firmly planted in straight-to-streaming thrillers. And there’s nothing wrong with that, because Crowe has actually made some pretty good ones, such as 2020’s Unhinged. Now Crowe is back with the director of that film, Derrick Borte, for The Get Out, and he’s hardly the only big name in the impressive cast.

Crowe is joined by Luke Evans, Teresa Palmer, Nina Dobrev, and Aaron Paul in The Get Out. Formerly titled Bear Country, the film is based on the novel Strip by author Thomas Perry, and centers on a nightclub owner whose plan to lead a quiet retirement is upended by a robbery and an encounter with a deadly cartel.

One of the first, if not the first, interviews of my career was with Borte for his 2009 film, The Joneses. I’ve kept a keen interest in his work ever since. He hasn’t done anything quite as subversive as that since, and that’s fine. But I’d like to see him get the reins of a bigger project at some point.

Vertical will release The Get Out in select theaters on June 26th, before moving to digital on June 30th.
