It’s been a busy day already for the folks at 87North Productions. Earlier today, a new trailer for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina was released to signal the launch of ticket preorders for that anticipated film. And now, following the footage shown at CinemaCon, we have the first trailer for Nobody 2, returning Bob Odenkirk to the unlikely role of action hero, Hutch Mansell.
It’s strictly family time for Hutch, a seemingly ordinary family man who is actually an elite-trained assassin. While the first movie saw him battling a vengeful crime boss, the sequel has him balancing quality time on vacation with the family and fighting bad guys, as we see him do in a cramped elevator. Later, Hutch’s zeal in protecting his family (and his bullied son) gets them in trouble with a corrupt theme park operator, his shady sheriff, and another unhinged crime boss.
Returning to join Odenkirk are Connie Nielsen, RZA, and Christopher Lloyd. Fresh faces for the sequel include Sharon Stone, Colin Hanks, John Ortiz, Michael Ironside, and Colin Salmon.
Nobody opened in 2021 and was a surprising hit for Odenkirk, earning $57M and quickly securing a sequel. If this was performs just as well, we could see it grow into an even bigger franchise. Personally, I’d like 87North to reveal all of this takes place in the same universe as John Wick.
If the style of combat looks even more brutal than before, thank Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto, known for some awesome action flicks such as Killers, Headshot, and The Shadow Strays. The script is by Derek Kolstad, who wrote the previous film, and Aaron Rabin from a story by Rabin.
Nobody 2 hits theaters on August 15th from Universal Pictures.
