Sony Pictures hopes to hook you in with its trailer for I Know What You Did Last Summer. The new horror from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson revives the franchise that launched way back in 1997 and spawned a sequel one year later.
The new film stars Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King and Chase Sui Wonders, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprising their roles from the original movies. Robinson also cois-wrote the screenplay with Sam Lansky.
Here’s the synopsis: When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.
In the trailer, it’s Prinze and Hewitt’s characters, going by their own past experiences, who seem to have an idea what’s going on. “I have one question. What did you do last summer?”, she asks.
I Know What You Did Last Summer hits theaters on July 18th.
