New ‘Star Wars’ Series In The Works From ‘Lost’ Showrunner And A Writer Of ‘Watchmen’

With Tony Gilroy’s acclaimed Andor coming to an end this season, and the fate of The Mandalorian unclear after season 4 became The Mandalorian & Grogu film, Lucasfilm has need of a new series on Disney+. It appears one is already in mind, and it’ll have the father/son duo of Carlton and Nick Cuse at the helm.

THR reports that a mysterious new Star Wars series is in the works for Carlton and Nick Cuse. Carlton’s impressive list of credits includes Lost, The Strain, Jack Ryan, Bates Motel, and the newly-released medical drama Pulse.

Nick’s work is just as beloved by fans and critics, and includes HBO’s Watchmen, Masters of the Air, Station Eleven, and The Leftovers.

Plot details are being kept hidden for now, but the rumor mill is churning with thoughts that it could finally be the Knights of the Old Republic series fans have wanted for ages. If so, it would be set hundreds of years before the Skywalker Saga and the earliest ever captured on screen, even earlier than the recently canceled The Acolyte.

This news follows so soon after Star Wars Celebration, where Lucasfilm announced the title of Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling’s upcoming film to be Star Wars: Starfighter. Fans also saw footage from The Mandalorian & Grogu, and received confirmation of filming on Ahsoka season two.
