When it comes to telling unique African stories on the big screen, nobody is doing it better than Rungano Nyoni right now. Following her acclaimed 2017 film I Am Not a Witch, Nyoni returned with On Becoming a Guinea Fowl and competed in the Un Certain Regard category at Cannes, where she won the Best Director award. A24 has high hopes for the film, and it all begins with a brand new trailer.
Written and directed by Nyoni and starring Susan Chardy, Elizabeth Chisela, and Henry B.J. Phiri, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl follows a Zambian family and the wealth of buried secrets that emerge while preparing for a funeral.
A24 will release On Becoming a Guinea Fowl in theaters on March 7th 2025.
