Shooting on Peacemaker season 2 is cooking, and James Gunn has already teased a new character’s arrival. Fans have quickly jumped in with ideas as to who it might be, encouraged by Gunn who captioned his social media post with “Who might this be?”

The character appears to be of Native American origin, due to the pigtail hair and feathered armbands. That’s led some to speculate the man is Apache Chief, the hero made popular in the 1980s Hanna-Barbera’s Super Friends and Challenge of the Super Friends cartoons. His power to grow to a towering height by shouting “Apache Chief!!” would be easy fodder for the Peacemaker series to make jokes of, although this image suggests a more serious take on the character.
Otherwise, the guesses are that it could be Long Shadow, another Native American hero inspired by Apache Chief. Long Shadow has appeared in the Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice animated shows.
Manitou Raven is another who is considered a possibility. The Apache mystic began as a villain before turning to the light, appearing in the JLA and Justice League: Elite comic books.
The image marks our first official look at Peacemaker season two, which is interesting to have it not be of star John Cena. Gunn has yet to reveal a release date, but has said it will arrive sometime after the debut of his Superman movie in July 2025.
Season two is considered a soft reboot of the series, which began as a spinoff of Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad. Joining Cena in the cast are Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux, and Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury, and David Denman in an undisclosed role. The arrival of the senior Flag is interesting because it was Peacemaker who killed Rick Flag Jr. (played by Joel Kinnaman), so expect some fireworks there.
