There have been a lot of movies about the challenges of motherhood, but none quite like Nightbitch. While it might sound like some sort of R-rated superhero movie, it actually stars Amy Adams as a struggling mother whose domestic situation begins to have a drastic effect on her body. It literally transforms her into something feral, something canine.
As seen in the new Nightbitch trailer, the body horror/comedy stars Adams as a mother who begins to change into a dog. Why? And is this real or some kind of allegory for the ravaging effects of pregnancy/motherhood on a woman’s body? The change in identity that a woman faces when she becomes a mother? And what if you’re a woman who lacks that maternal instinct? All questions that appear to be swirling around this film from Marielle Heller, director of Can You Ever Forgive Me? and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
SYNOPSIS: A woman pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom, but soon her domesticity takes a surreal turn.
Joining Adams in the cast are Scoot McNairy, Arleigh Patrick Snowden, Emmett James Snowden, Jessica Harper, Zoe Chao, Mary Holland, and Archana Rajan.
Searchlight Pictures will release Nightbitch into theaters on December 6th.
