There’s a reason that road trip films are a staple of American cinema. Everyone can understand the idea of taking a long journey towards an uncertain destination, navigating the emotional twists, turns, and bumps along the way. The genre can be funny and cathartic, and are almost always satisfying. Opening this week is What We Find On the Road, Chaysen Beacham’s directorial debut about a young man who is given a set of keys to a mysterious vehicle, and sets out to learn more about his estranged father.
We’re happy to debut an exclusive clip from What We Find On the Road, starring Finn Haney (William), William Chris Sumpter (The Midnight Club), Katherine Laheen (We Crashed), Ross Partridge (Daisy Jones & the Six), and CSI‘s Paul Guilfoyle.
In the scene, we see 18-year-old TJ (Haney) and his friend Jake (Sumpter) as they meet Billy (Guilfoyle), an old friend of TJ’s father, nicknamed “The Hammer”, who uncovers the ’68 convertible that can be unlocked by the mysterious key he received. The car doesn’t look like much, but it looks like it has been through a lot and driven by someone who has stories to tell.
Those stories are what TJ will look to discover on an epic 3000-mile journey across America for a meeting that could change everything.
SYNOPSIS: On TJ’s 18th birthday, a stranger delivers him a key from his father, last seen as he was hauled off to prison 8 years previously. With the key is the address for a proposed meeting – 3000 miles away and in two weeks. The key unlocks a timeworn 1968 convertible, with a coffin welded to its floor. With each decision that follows, TJ plunges deeper into the mysterious and beautiful landscapes we all navigate – on our own, with our tribe, through the shifting turns of the road ahead.
What We Find On the Road opens exclusively in theaters September 20th.
