‘The Toxic Avenger’ Remake Is Reportedly “Unreleasable”

It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything from The Toxic Avenger, Macon Blair’s remake starring Peter Dinklage as Toxie. A teaser was released last September, right around the film’s world premiere at Fantastic Fest. Reviews have been good, as well, from the few who have seen it. However according to sources speaking with World of Reel, the film may never see the light of day.

According to the report, The Toxic Avenger is currently deemed “unreleasable” because its commercial prospects are “too out there” for theaters, which explains why the film still doesn’t have distribution.

The site continues on…

“Filmmaker and producer Adam Masnyk recently went on Twitter/X and confirmed that the film has been deemed “not safe enough to market,” which he claims is why no one has stepped up to distribute it. When all is said and done, it could maybe even turn out to be “lost media.””

Blair’s remake of the 1984 Troma classic also stars Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, and Elijah Wood. I would think the cast and recognizable brand would be enough to attract attention, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The possibility exists we could see The Toxic Avenger go straight to streaming. That would be pretty disappointing but better than nothing.
