With Peacock set to lose the WWE in a few months, they’re going to be leaning even harder on their original series programming, which has been consistently strong. The next one to look forward to is the star-studded miniseries Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, a crime thriller based on an infamous case chronicled in the iHeart true-crime podcast of the same name.
Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Taraji P. Henson, Don Cheadle, Terrence Howard, Chloe Bailey, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Dexter Darden, Lori Harvey, and Sinqua Walls star in the series about based on the true story of a high-stakes robbery attempted on the same night as Muhammad Ali’s 1970 comeback fight.
Fight Night is created and showrun by Shaye Ogbonna (The Chi), with Craig Brewer (Dolemite Is My Name) an exec-producer and director on at least two episodes.
SYNOPSIS: Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, based on the acclaimed iHeart true-crime podcast, follows the infamous story of how an armed robbery on the night of Muhammad Ali’s historic 1970 comeback fight changed not only one man’s life but ultimately transformed Atlanta into the “Black Mecca.” When a hustler named Chicken Man (Kevin Hart) hosts an afterparty to celebrate the fight with a guest list of the country’s wealthiest, the night ends with the most brazen criminal underworld heist in Atlanta’s history. Suspected of masterminding the crime, Chicken Man is hellbent on clearing his name but must convince his old adversary, J.D. Hudson (Don Cheadle), one of the first Black detectives in the city’s desegregated police force, who is tasked with bringing those responsible to justice.
Peacock will premiere Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist on September 5th.
