‘Watch Dogs’: Sophie Wilde To Lead Adaptation Of Ubisoft’s Hacker Video Game

Supernatural horror Talk to Me was a big hit for A24 last year, earning $92M and generating a lot of buzz among genre fans. It was also a huge breakout for star Sophie Wilde, and now she’s taking the next step by moving up to a potential blockbuster franchise. Deadline reports Wilde will star in Watch Dogs, New Regency’s adaptation of Ubisoft’s bestselling video game.

Released in 2014, Watch Dogs is an action-based 3rd-person video game that follows a vigilante computer hacker seeking revenge against those who killed his niece. The film version will star Wilde, and be directed by French filmmaker Mathieu Turi (Meander). Christie LeBlanc, writer of the Netflix thriller Oxygen, has penned the screenplay.

Wilde has not jumped into a ton of roles since her sudden success. The Aussie actress was recently seen in the YA fantasy adventure The Portable Door, and has the Australian Netflix series Boy Swallows Universe coming up later this year.

Here’s a synopsis of the first Watch Dogs game: You play as Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker and former thug whose criminal past led to a violent family tragedy. Now, on the hunt for those who hurt your family, you’ll be able to monitor and hack all who surround you by manipulating everything connected to the city’s network. Access omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control traffic lights and public transportation to stop the enemy… and more.
