We know that very little of the old DCEU will be carrying over to James Gunn’s new DCU, but one that will is the Peacemaker series. Season two is coming up, and John Cena will be returning to the role of the violently extreme “hero”. But everything he went through in season one? Well, that won’t be coming with him.
Gunn revealed on Threads that Peacemaker’s first season won’t be canon, but season two will fit neatly into the DCU continuity. As far where the series fits, Gunn said that it will take place after Superman, and that both will be shot simultaneously which means he won’t be able to direct every Peacemaker episode.
“Yes, we’ll be shooting ‘Superman’ and ‘Peacemaker’ simultaneously. Yes, I’ve written all the episodes, but, no, in the interest of getting the show out there, I won’t be able to direct them all (only some),” Gunn said.
Not that Gunn directed all of season one, either. Brad Anderson, Rosemary Rodriguez, and Jody Hill were the other filmmakers helping Gunn out then, and they could return.
Presumably, this means everything that is continuing on from the DCEU will be rebooted, including Blue Beetle and Viola Davis’ return as Amanda Waller in the Waller spinoff series.
Peacemaker likely won’t debut on Max until 2025. But if you’re dying for more right now, you could always play as him in MK1. His Fatalities are sick.
