‘Rare Objects’ Trailer: Katie Holmes Directs And Stars In New Film About Starting Over In Life

Katie Holmes is beginning to come into her own as a filmmaker. Following her debut with 2016’s All We Had, and last year’s pandemic drama Alone Together, Holmes is back behind the camera with Rare Objects, another small-ish character drama that avoids spectacle.

Holmes directs and stars in the film, a contemporary adaptation of Kathleen Tessaro’s Depression Era novel about a woman looking to start over in life with the help of her friends and a new job selling antiques. But can anyone ever truly escape the past?

Joining Holmes in the cast are Julia Mayorga, Alan Cumming, and David Alexander Flinn. Jimi Stanton, Saundra Santiago, Purva Bedi, and Derek Luke who seems to be in everything Holmes does lately. Perhaps they became friends while shooting Pieces of April way back in 2003? Katie Holmes & Phaedon A. Papadopoulos co-wrote the screenplay.

Rare Objects opens in theaters and VOD on April 14th.

An adaptation of Kathleen Tessaro’s novel of the same name, Rare Objects is a story about friendship that centers around a young woman who reclaims her own sense of self through her journey of self-discovery that involves a new job, new friends, and healing.
