‘Wildflower’ Trailer: Kiernan Shipka Juggles Her Future And Caring For Her Parents In New Coming-Of-Age Dramedy

Is Wildflower this year’s CODA? Kiernan Shipka stars in the heartwarming coming-of-age film as a young woman who must begin looking towards her future while also caring for her neurodivergent parents, played by Dash Mihok and newcomer Samantha Hyde.

The film is co-directed and co-written by Matt Smukler and Jana Savage. Smukler told PEOPLE the story “is inspired by my niece and her parents — and the way I’ve been able to watch them surrender themselves to their love for each other.”

Also in the cast are Jean Smart, Jacki Weaver, Charlie Plummer, Alexandra Daddario, Brad Garrett, Reid Scott, and Erika Alexander. A really strong group surrounding Shipka, who of course is best known for Mad Men and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

“What I couldn’t have imagined was that for my directorial debut, this incredible dream cast would come together to show me new sides to these characters, in ways that were both powerful and laugh-out-loud funny,” Smukler said.

Wildflower opens in theaters on March 17th, digital and VOD on March 21st.

Wildflower is a hilarious big-hearted celebration of family in all its variety. A coming-of-age film about growing up too fast and slowing down just enough to recognize one’s good fortune.
