Zazie Beetz Returning For ‘Joker’ Sequel Alongside Joaquin Phoenix And Lady Gaga

Forget whatever else is going on with the DC Universe at Warner Bros. Discovery. One project that is definitely good to go is Joker: Folie À Deux, Todd Phillips’ sequel to 2019’s Joker. In recent days we’ve learned the musical sequel will pair up Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix with Lady Gaga, but it looks like she’ll just be playing the second part of a love triangle.

Deadline reports that Zazie Beetz, who played Sophie Dumond in Joker, will reprise the role. Well, I guess this confirms whether her character died or not at the prior film’s conclusion? Sophie was a single mother who became the fixation of Phoenix’s disturbed Arthur Fleck.

With Gaga set to play Dr. Harleen Quinzel, the civilian identity of Harley Quinn, in a story set primarily in Arkham Asylum, we have the setup for a pretty crazy love triangle romance. Are we possibly looking at the evolution of Quinzel into Harley Quinn, the same way Fleck eventually was molded into Joker by the world’s cruelty?

Joker: Folie À Deux begins shooting in December and opens October 4th 2024.
