Gore Verbinski, the director who commanded huge budgets from Disney for the hit Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, has been laying low since 2016’s A Cure for Wellness. He gained a reputation for blowing through those budgets and ballooning costs, which isn’t a good look anymore. But now he’s back with the high-concept sci-fi adventure film Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, which premiered to strong reviews at Fantastic Fest in September.
Sam Rockwell stars as a mysterious man from the future who travels back to our time to recruit a bunch of L.A. diners to help him fight a rogue artificial intelligence.
Joining Rockwell in the cast are Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Zazie Beetz, Juno Temple, Dino Fetscher, Anna Acton, Asim Chaudhry, Daniel Barnett, and Dominique Maher.
Verbinski directs from a screenplay by Love and Monsters writer Matthew Robinson. Based on what we’re seeing in this new trailer, the film looks like it will borrow from a number of genres, with an emphasis on dark comedy. Rockwell seems to be having a blast in a role that allows him to go a bit crazy, something he’s very good at.
SYNOPSIS: A “Man From The Future” arrives at a diner in Los Angeles, where he must recruit the precise combination of disgruntled patrons to join him on a one-night quest to save the world from the terminal threat of rogue artificial intelligence. The film is a sci-fi adventure with a blend of dark humor and poignant commentary on modern technology.
Briarcliff Entertainment will release Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die on February 13th 2026.
