‘Padre Pio’ Trailer: Shia LaBeouf Plays The Italian Saint For Abel Ferrara

This hasn’t been a great few days for Shia LaBeouf. Previous allegations of sexual misconduct have resurfaced due to Olivia Wilde’s comments to Variety about replacing the actor with Harry Styles in her upcoming film, Don’t Worry Darling. That kind of talk about your character makes it hard to launch a comeback, but LaBeouf has given it a go. And he’s got help with that from Bad Lieutenant director Abel Ferrara in his new Italian film, Padre Pio.

LaBeouf stars as Italian saint Padre Pio in his formative years. There aren’t a ton of details otherwise, but Pio’s notoriety came from his exhibiting stigmata for most of his life.

Others in the cast alongside LaBeouf include Marco Leonardi, Salvatore Ruocco, and Luca Lionello.

This has turned out to be an important film for LaBeouf. Following more allegations of abuse by his ex, FKA Twigs, LaBeouf took a break from acting in 2020. A couple of years later while shooting Padre Pio he converted to Catholicism.

Padre Pio will have its world premiere at Venice, and then presumably open later in the year.
