‘Candy Cane Lane’: Eddie Murphy Reunites With ‘Boomerang’ Director On A Holiday Film For Amazon

With the success of Coming 2 America, the relationship between Eddie Murphy and Amazon Studios is strong. And it’s going to continue in a that suggests the partnership will last a long time, because Murphy is going to do a holiday movie next, and holiday movies are forever.

Amazon has announced that Murphy will star in Candy Cane Lane, a holiday movie directed by Reginald Hudlin. The story is being kept under wraps, but it comes from writer Kelly Younger based on her own holiday experiences as a kid.

This is a reunion between Murphy and Hudlin. Back in 1992, Hudlin directed Murphy in Boomerang, one of the actor’s biggest hits of the decade.  He has been at the helm of another classic comedy, The Great White Hype, and other films including The Ladies Man, Marshall, and most recently the football drama Safety.

Murphy will be seen next in Kenya Barris’ Netflix comedy, You People.

“The holiday season is my favorite time of year—just ask my family about my nine-hour Christmas playlist!” said Hudlin. “I‘m excited to be working again with Eddie Murphy, Brian Grazer, and Amazon.”

Filming on Candy Cane Lane begins this winter.
