Amandla Stenberg Confirmed For ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Series Set During High Republic Era

It’s official. After first being reported late last year, Lucasfilm has announced that Amandla Stenberg will star in Star Wars: The Acolyte. The upcoming series from Leslye Headland is said to have a martial arts component, while also being set in the High Republica era.

The High Republic era is decades prior to The Phantom Menace, a time when the Jedi were most powerful and influential. But it’s also a time when the Sith were beginning to come into power, and the series title suggests the lead character will be a disciple of that dark order.

Rumor has it that Loki director Kate Herron is on board to helm at least a few episodes. It’s worth noting that Stenberg, Herron, and Headland are all part of the LGBTQ community so here’s hoping we see that reflected in the series. Star Wars could use it.

Stenberg will be seen next in the Gen Z thriller, Bodies Bodies Bodies. She’s had a number of acclaimed performances including in The Hunger Games and The Hate U Give.

Star Wars: The Acolyte is expected to hit Disney+ in 2024.
