‘Shazam! Fury Of The Gods’ Moves Up Release, Avoids ‘Avatar 2’ Showdown

Warner Bros. did some major reshuffling of their DCEU slate about a month ago. And while we saw Black Adam, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom pushed into 2023, Shazam: Fury of the Gods actually moved up. Unfortunately, it moved up right into the sights of the newly-titled Avatar: The Way of Water, on December 16th. That was never likely to stand, and following James Cameron’s Avatar presentation at CinemaCon, WB has quickly rethought things.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods has flown to December 21st, giving it five days of elbow room from Avatar 2. That’s only five days of elbow room, but better than a face-to-face confrontation that might’ve ended in disaster. Still, I think fans should lower their expectations that this will be a #1 box office hit at any point. It may find it difficult to match the $366M of the first movie.

The good news is that fans are still getting this movie super early compared to the summer 2023 date it had previously. Plus, reports out of CinemaCon are that Gal Gadot will suit up as Wonder Woman, confirming a rumor from a few weeks ago. All of these cameos we’re seeing has me hopeful of a new Justice League film someday.
