‘Master Gardener’: Paul Schrader Sets Joel Edgerton And Sigourney Weaver For Next Film

Paul Schrader isn’t wasting any time. His latest film, The Card Counter, isn’t even out yet but already the veteran filmmaker is casting up his next project, Master Gardener, which will star Joel Edgerton and Sigourney Weaver.

According to Deadline, Edgerton and Weaver are the first to be cast in Master Gardener, which Schrader will direct from his own script. The story follows a “meticulous horticulturist (Edgerton) who is devoted to tending the grounds of a beautiful estate and pandering to his employer, the wealthy dowager (Weaver). When she demands that he take on her wayward and troubled great niece, it unlocks dark secrets from a buried violent past.”

“When the idea first started it was one of my male protagonists but then these two women intervened and it became something more complex and unique,” Schrader said.

Schrader’s The Card Counter debuts in Venice tomorrow, before opening in theaters on September  10th.
