‘Annette’ Trailer: Amazon Debuts Final Trailer For Leos Carax’s Bizarre Rock Musical With Adam Driver And Marion Cotillard

The timing on this one, as I literally just finished watching Annette less than an hour ago. The latest surreal drama from Holy Motors director Leos Carax is a big, sweeping rock musical, composed by the group Sparks (of Edgar Wright’s The Sparks Brothers doc) and starring Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard, and Simon Helberg.

I won’t go into any review of the film, but will say to expect a big, operatic tragedy about fame, passion, parenthood, and betrayal. And if you’re a fan of Sparks’ music then it will likely hit a lot of buttons for you.

The film stars Driver and Cotillard as a seemingly mismatched pair, him a shock stand-up comedian and her a renowned opera singer. Their passionate and very public relationship is thrown upside down with the birth of their child, a girl who turns out to be very special.

Annette recently had its world premiere at Cannes where Carax was awarded Best Director. Certainly, Amazon is hoping for similar accolades to be heaped on Annette when it opens on August 6th.

Los Angeles, today. Henry (Adam Driver) is a stand-up comedian with a fierce sense of humor who falls in love with Ann (Marion Cotillard), a world-renowned opera singer. Under the spotlight, they form a passionate and glamorous couple. With the birth of their first child, Annette, a mysterious little girl with an exceptional destiny, their lives are turned upside down. A film by visionary director Leos Carax (Holy Motors), with story & music by Ron & Russell Mael of Sparks, this original musical is a journey of love, passion & fame.
