I was going to make a crack about it being tough to launch a successful streaming service, but it doesn’t actually seem to be the case. They’re growing by leaps and bounds, all of them, and some, like CBS All Access, are simply rebranding. Yesterday, we learned of the blockbuster films arriving early to the streamer, as well as the new shows, virtually all of them based on existing brands. And now two more franchises are confirmed to be coming, and they should make horror fans very happy.
According to Deadline, label Paramount Players will be dropping three or four new features to the Paranount+ streaming service each year. We know that two of the first will be a new Paranormal Activity film, while the other is a Pet Sematary prequel.
We already know a little bit about the next Paranormal Activity, a true sequel that will have William Eubank (Underwater) directing from a script by franchise writer Christopher Landon, also known for his Happy Death Day movies. The film had been set up over at Blumhouse but Paramount has decided to use this successful horror brand to bolster the streamer’s lineup.
Although the recent Pet Sematary remake was pretty terrible, it didn’t cost much and made $113M at the box office. Numbers like that look really good right now, and Paramount isn’t about to let such a popular Stephen King title go to waste. A prequel is an interesting idea, however, especially one set in the newly-relaunched franchise.
