The Inevitable ‘Harry Potter’ Series Is In Early Development For HBO Max

This was a no-brainer and we knew it was always going to happen from the moment WarnerMedia created HBO Max. A live-action Harry Potter series is being conjured up, according to THR, and nobody should be surprised about it.

The Harry Potter series is in the earliest stages of development for the HBO Max streaming service. It’s unclear the approach, however, and WarnerMedia is taking pitches from various filmmakers to decide how to move forward. Will it follow new characters to the Wizarding World? A prequel along the lines of Fantastic Beasts? Or something in the far-flung magial future?

When asked about it, WarnerMedia execs played dumb, because of course they did, saying “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.”

You don’t need me to tell you how massively popular the Harry Potter franchise is. It encompasses not just movies, but toys, video games, books, and an amusement park. This was inevitable, and while details are slim now it might be a good idea to start paying extra attention to JK Rowling on social media to see if she’s involved.
