‘Sex Appeal’ Trailer: Mika Abdella Aims To Be An Overachiever At Love In Hulu’s Latest Teen Comedy

Hulu has really carved out a niche for itself with projects geared towards teen audiences, whether it be with comedy shows like PEN15, or films such as The Binge (which is getting a sequel, by the way) and Plan B. Well, you can now add Sex Appeal to that list, which continues the trend of raunchy humor as suggested by the title.

Sex Appeal stars Mika Abdalla (of Project Mc2) as Avery, a classic overachiever who decides she’s not just going to be the best at school; she’s also going to be the best sexual partner ever in order to please her boyfriend.

It’s a premise that almost sounds like that Aubrey Plaza comedy from a few years ago, The To Do List, only not quite as explicit. The cast includes Jake Short, Mason Versaw, Paris Jackson, Margaret Cho, Fortune Feimster, Rebecca Henderson, Tate Hanyok, Hayden Szeto, and Artemis Pebdani. Behind the camera is Talia Osteen in her first film since directing Slow Learners in 2015.

Sex Appeal hits Hulu on January 14th.

Avery Hansen-White doesn’t do things she isn’t excellent at. So when her long-distance boyfriend hints at wanting to take their relationship to the next level, she sets out to master her sexuality, employing her oldest friend, Larson, as a test subject. In this hilarious teen comedy, Avery’s study results in the realization that there’s more to sex, and love, than mechanics. Relationships require both head and heart.
