The entire point of turning 2020 into a ghost town was in hope of theaters being a safer, more welcoming atmosphere in 2021. But as the year winds down, and COVID-19 spikes are everywhere across the country, it’s starting to look as uncertain as ever. And already cracks are starting to form in the upcoming release schedule, starting with anticipated spy flick The 355, which is moving to 2022.
Deadline reports that Universal has moved Simon Kinberg’s action thriller The 355 a full year (!!!!) from January 15th 2021 date to January 14th 2022. Damn. Why such a lengthy delay? While no explicit reason was given, theaters are shutting down again and tighter restrictions being put in place in practically every state, making for a box office guaranteed to be in the toilet.
The 355 has a star-studded cast which is its biggest draw by far. Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, Fan Bingbing, Sebastian Stan, and Edgar Ramirez lead the film about an all-female group of agents tasked with recovering a top secret weapon.
This might be the first of many chips to topple over into 2022, so stay tuned.
