‘Mid90s’ Trailer: Jonah Hill’s Directorial Debut Revisits The ’90s Skate Culture

Hard to believe the Jonah Hill of today is the same guy we all laughed at in Superbad, The Sitter, and other lowbrow comedies. He’s evolved into a tremendous dramatic actor, with a couple of Oscar nominations to his credit, and now is embarking on the next phase of his career as a filmmaker. And for his debut, the coming of age film Mid90s, Hill is going back to the era and skate culture he clearly has fond memories for.

Starring Sunny Suljic, best known for The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The House with a Clock in its Walls, the film centers on a lonely 13-year-old kid who finds his niche with a group of skateboarders. Tbe new trailer shows off the lengths Hill goes to give an accurate depiction of the era, not only in the soundtrack but in the 4:3 aspect ratio the film was shot in.  This isn’t just some lark Hill is on and will forget once it’s over, clearly he’s poured a lot of himself into this movie and could be just as good behind the camera as he is in front of it.
