Back in May, rumors surfaced that Mark Ruffalo would suit up as the Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, reportedly with a “major” role. Fresh off a tease of Spidey’s new costume, we’re learning that Ruffalo is officially aboard. And that’s not all, he’ll be joined by another MCU actor making their return.
Along with Ruffalo’s addition to the cast, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see the return of Michael Mando as Mac Gargan aka Scorpion. The Spidey villain was last seen in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming as an associate of Adrian Toomes aka Vulture.
There are going to be some interesting dynamics at play, because Jon Bernthal is reprising his role as The Punisher. Hulk and Punisher in the same movie is something we’ve never seen before. Hope he’s packing bigger bullets.
It’s possible that Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner will take on a mentor role for Holland’s Peter Parker. Holland has always been paired with a veteran MCU actor. Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, followed by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, and finally Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange.
Hulk continues to be the character who pops up in everyone else’s movie, not having a solo since 2008. He was instrumental in Thor: Ragnarok, and had a supporting role in the She-Hulk miniseries.
Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas are new additions to the cast. Charlie Cox is expected to reprise his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil from Spider-Man: No Way Home and Daredevil: Born Again. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to have smaller roles as MJ and Ned.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens July 31st 2026, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
