Kevin Feige basically just revealed that Florence Pugh’s Black Widow will appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He tried to be slick about it, unlike Tom Holland, who gives up Marvel secrets like a leaky faucet, but Feige’s comments about BiliBili World in Shanghai were easy to decipher.
While appearing next to an attendee dressed as Pugh’s Yelena Belova character, Feige said…
“If you’re a fan of Yelena, wait until Avengers: Doomsday. Yelena plays a big part in that,” adding, “But if you don’t want to wait until then, you might see Yelena a little bit sooner in the movies.”
Pugh’s appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been rumored, but never confirmed. This seems like a confirmation from Feige, because it’s the only MCU movie to hit theaters before Avengers: Doomsday in December. What’s unclear if she will have a significant role, or just a cameo. Perhaps she’s looking to recruit Spidey to the new Avengers squad she’s a part of?
Yelena Belova first debuted in the MCU in 2021’s Black Widow, as the estranged super-spy sister of Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff. She reappeared in the Disney+ series, Hawkeye, and as part of last year’s Thunderbolts*. Based on Feige’s words, her role could be even bigger going forward.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31st.
