‘Thunderbolts*’: Lewis Pullman Remains Secretive About Role As Sentry

Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend put Thunderbolts* into the spotlight. Much of the cast was introduced, and footage from the anti-hero film was shown to the roaring crowd of geeks. And while the night was full of announcements, one thing that wasn’t confirmed was Lewis Pullman’s role in the film. When he replaced Steven Yeun in the cast, nothing was ever revealed about the role, just as it was kept secret while Yeun had it. What’s the big secret, anyway?

At SDCC, Pullman was introduced simply as “Bob”. In the footage shown, he refers to himself in the same way. Fans who have been keeping up on the rumors have taken this as confirmation Pullman is playing Bob Reynolds aka Sentry, a Superman-level hero with severe psychological issues and a demonic side.

Speaking with EW after the panel, Pullman decided to play it coy and not reveal much of anything, other than a hint that isn’t really a hint at all…

“All I’ll say is that everyone has their own nicknames and Bob is not his only name,” Pullman said. “As Lewis is not my only name.”

Pullman added, “Bob is not all he goes by. That’s all I’m saying,” said Pullman.

Well, he’s better at keeping secrets than Tom Holland but Pullman isn’t fooling anybody here. While the MCU version might be different than the comics, it’s clear his character is Sentry and it will be fascinating to see how this enormously-powerful being fits.

Thunderbolts* opens on May 2nd 2025.
