Released in 2021, Nobody was a surprise hit that turned beloved character actor Bob Odenkirk into an action star. It’s been a bit of a wait, but we now know that Odenkirk will get to kick ass again as Nobody 2 is officially happening, albeit with a new director.
Variety reports that Nobody 2 will begin production in August, with Timo Tjahjanto taking over as director from Ilya Naishuller. Odenkirk will return to star, along with Connie Nielsen who played his wife. The original movie starred Odenkirk as a seemingly ordinary family man who is actually a former assassin and returns to that life when his loved ones become targets of a vengeful crimelord.
Adding Tjahjanto could be an upgrade on the action side of things. Nobody relied a lot on a slick style taken from the John Wick movies, which was to be expected since David Leitch was among the producers. But Tjahjanto is an Indonesian filmmaker whose style is grisly and brutal, as seen in the awesome films Killers, Headshot and The Night Comes For Us. If you haven’t seen those, clear some time on your schedule and change that ASAP.
In short, don’t expect Nobody 2 to be a carbon copy of the first movie.
