This has been a very busy day at Prime Video, as their TV upfronts have led to a boatload of big announcements. And now you can add two more that I think a lot of fans will be very excited about: Noir and an expansion of Tomb Raider.
First up, Prime Video has announced Noir, a live-action Spider-Man Noir series starring Nicolas Cage. Cage voiced the gritty 1930s gumshoe Spidey character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who produced the Spider-Verse movies, are aboard here as producers, as well. The show won’t debut on Prime Video, but will begin life on MGM+, which is an interesting development.
Next up, the Tomb Raider series from Phoebe Waller-Bridge that we learned about more than a year ago has been confirmed. An expansion of the Tomb Raider universe continues with a new series that Waller-Bridge will write and exec-produce. The role of Lara Croft has been played before, most famously by Angelina Jolie in two movies in the early 2000s, followed by an attempted reboot led by Alicia Vikander. Hayley Atwell voiced Croft in an animated series for Netflix last year.
It’s unclear when we’ll see Noir or Tomb Raider, but what is clear is that Amazon is doubling down on fresh content to stay competitive in the streaming wars.
