Going into House of the Dragon, there were questions about whether Game of Thrones‘ hated final season would kill enthusiasm for new spinoffs. Well, that question was quickly answered when the series became a massive hit, nearly surpassing the original in terms of audience and critical acclaim. And now as season two nears, a new trailer gives us a better look at what fans can look forward to.
The first season jumped around in time, which caused a bit of division with viewers who LOVED the younger versions of Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. The second season follows their older selves, played by Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, picking up where the story left off. Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) has been placed on the iron throne, kicking off what is known as the Dance of the Dragons, or the Targaryen Civil War.
So look forward to lots of hot palace intrigue, dragons, and bloodshed as Westeros continues to be one huge battlefield.
Matt Smith, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham all round out the cast for season two. George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal co-created the series with the latter also showrunner.
House of the Dragon returns to HBO on June 16th.
