Released around last Halloween, Five Nights at Freddy’s was one of 2023’s great success stories. The long-awaited adaptation of the hit horror video game franchise earned $297M in theaters, besting mixed reviews and surpassing a meager $20M production budget. Even more, the film was released simultaneously on Peacock, where it also did well. A sequel has been inevitable, but Universal and Blumhouse made it official last week during Cinemacon.

A sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’s will arrive in the fall of 2025, which likely means around Halloween again. It’s unclear if director/co-writer Emma Tammi will return. The same with co-writer and franchise creators Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback. If it ain’t broke…
The same goes for the cast. We can probably expect Josh Hutcherson to return as night security guard Mike Schmidt. He has been vocal about his eagerness to get back into co-starring opposite homicidal animatronics creatures.
Speaking with Variety, Hutcherson said: “I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible. Obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was so cool and phenomenal.
“We hoped it would connect with audiences. But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.”
