Until Marvel actually says something concrete regarding Spider-Man 4, fans will continue to speculate wildly, and rumors will continue to swirl. While Tom Holland and Zendaya are expected to return, director Jon Watts has left a vacancy behind the camera. And now scooper Jeff Sneider has info on who could be taking over.
According to Sneider, Justin Lin is in the mix to direct Marvel/Sony’s next Spider-Man movie. Lin is a solid pick. He’s known best for multiple movies in the Fast & Furious franchise, as well as Star Trek Beyond and Better Luck Tomorrow. So he can handle big budget, action-fueled spectacles as well as sci-fi, fantasy, and teen-centric stories. Lin most recently exited from Fast X and Fast XI, and has added a couple of projects that could get in the way, including a One-Punch Man adaptation and heist film Two for the Money with Charlize Theron and Daniel Craig.
Drew Goddard is also said to be a contender, and that makes a lot of sense. A fan-favorite filmmaker who has written such films as Cloverfield, World War Z, and The Martian, Goddard made his directorial debut with The Cabin in the Woods. He also has a Marvel connection as creator of the Daredevil series on Netflix. We’ve already seen that show’s star, Charlie Cox, reprise the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, so perhaps Marvel will choose to lean on that connection.
The report adds that production on Spider-Man 4 could begin in the fall, and if that’s true then we could MAYBE see it in 2025, but 2026 seems more likely.
