‘Helldivers’: Jason Momoa Will Kill Some Bugs In Justin Lin’s Film Based On Hit Shooter Game

If you had any doubts that Jason Momoa loves video games, just look at his recent career choices. He starred in the billion-dollar blockbuster The Minecraft Movie, and is set to light shit up as Blanka in Street Fighter. Now Momoa has landed his next movie based on a video game, an adaptation of the hit shooter Helldivers from director Justin Lin.

Variety reports Momoa as the first big name cast in Sony Pictures’ Helldivers, based on the 2015 shooter game that’s similar in satirical tone to Starship Troopers. The story follows the titular shock troopers of a totalitarian government, armed with advanced weaponry and charged with wiping out alien threats to make way for colonization by the fascist Super Earth regime. Gary Dauberman is writing the screenplay.

Lin is the filmmaker best known for his extensive run directing the Fast & Furious movies, concluding with F9. He most recently returned to his indie roots with Last Days based on the tragic life of John Allen Chau.

Is Momoa starting to get overexposed in the same way as Pedro Pascal? For me, it’s starting to feel that way. I could do without seeing him for a while. He most recently starred with Dave Bautista in Prime Video’s The Wrecking Crew, and will be seen later this year as Lobo in DC Studios’ Supergirl.

Sony has set Helldivers to open on November 10th 2027.
