Well, the 2023/2024 awards season is officially over. The 96th Academy Awards went off (mostly) without a hitch tonight, ending with Oppenheimer winning the coveted Best Picture title.
The film focused on the inventor of the atomic bomb, won seven awards total, including Director for Christopher Nolan, Supporting Actor for first-time winner Robert Downey Jr, Editing, Original Score, Cinematography, and Best Actor for first-time Winner Cillian Murphy.
Poor Things came in second for the most awards tonight, winning in the Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Production Design categories. Emma Stone took home her second Oscar for playing Bella Baxter in the film. The Best Actress Oscar race was one of the tightest this year, with Stone and Gladstone duking it out throughout the season.
As for the ceremony itself, which Jimmy Kimmel hosted, John Cena presented the Costume Design Oscar mostly naked in honor of one of the ceremony’s most infamous moments from the 1974 Academy Awards. Ryan Gosling blew the house down performing “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie, which only walked away with Best Original Song with Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”
