Right on time for the 20th anniversary of the last time Disney celebrated their famous theme park attraction, a new Haunted Mansion movie is on the way. The first one, led by Eddie Murphy, was a dud compared to another movie based on a Disney ride that year, Pirates of the Caribbean, while the latest looks to surpass more recent efforts Tomorrowland and Jungle Cruise.
The new Haunted Mansion is led by Rosario Dawson, pretty popular right now thanks to The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, as a single mother who moves into a new home with her son, only to learn that it’s been cursed. So they enlist a motley group of so-called supernatural experts to rid the mansion of its paranormal squatters.
Also in the cast are newcomer Chase W. Dillon as Dawson’s son, joined by LaKeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, Winona Ryder, Dan Levy, Hasan Minhaj, Danny DeVito, Jared Leto, and Jamie Lee Curtis. A star-studded group, for sure.
Behind the camera is Dear White People and Bad Hair director Justin Simien in his most mainstream effort yet, working from a script by Ghostbusters writer Katie Dippold.
Haunted Mansion opens on July 28th.
